Jayalakshmi Venkatesan

 

Jaya, a computer engineer turned homemaker, has been residing in Georgia for the past seven years. Passionate about Tamil culture and language, she enjoys sharing her knowledge through teaching. She also finds joy in exploring Tamil music in its diverse forms. With a background in technology and a love for cultural exchange, she continues to nurture her interests while embracing life as a homemaker.

Meenakshi Balasubramanian

 

Meenakshi, a software professional with a master’s degree in computer science, has been living in Atlanta for a decade. Originally from Chennai, she has always been passionate about teaching, drawing inspiration from her mother, who was a teacher. Her love for children motivates her to create a fun and engaging learning environment in her classes. Meenakshi’s interests include reading, solving puzzles, drawing, and fitness. She successfully trained for a half marathon and continues to explore different forms of fitness.

Priya Prasath

 

Priyadharsini Prasath, originally from Tiruvannamalai, India, is a passionate educator and volunteer currently residing in North Carolina, USA. Holding a Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Priyadharsini is a native Tamil speaker with a deep love for her language, culture, and traditions. She is committed to sharing these with young children, fostering a nurturing and welcoming learning environment. Since 2024, she has volunteered at the Lakshmi Tamil School in Atlanta, where she thrives in working with young minds and connecting with new people, blending her professional skills with her passion for cultural education.

Shalini Sivakumar

 

Shalini Sivakumar, originally from Chennai, India, currently resides in Canada. A French expert with a decade of experience, she is comfortable navigating French culture. As a native Tamil speaker, she is passionate about sharing her language and its associated culture and traditions with young children. Her valuable traits and professional experience create a comfortable and welcoming learning environment for her students. Since 2024, she has volunteered at the Lakshmi Tamil School in Atlanta, where she enjoys working with young minds and meeting new people.

Moorthy Srinivasan, Teacher

 

 

Moorthy has been teaching beginner classes at Lakshmi Tamil School since 2023. He focuses on helping his students develop foundational skills, with a particular emphasis on listening comprehension to ensure correct pronunciation of the Tamil alphabet, especially those characters unique to the language.

Sindhu Mathivanan, Teacher

 

Sindhu, a former software engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering, worked as an IT professional in Chennai before moving to the USA with her family. Driven by her passion for the arts, she now teaches visual arts to children.


Instilled with an appreciation for the Tamil language and its heritage by her father from a young age, Sindhu is an avid reader of Tamil novels. Her experience teaching children, combined with her passion for Tamil, inspired her to join the Lakshmi Tamil School.

Expressing gratitude for one’s mother language is a beautiful way to honor culture and heritage. Sindhu is deeply thankful to everyone at Lakshmi Tamil School for providing her with this wonderful opportunity to give back by teaching Tamil.

Hari Balakrishnan, Teacher

 

Hari, an engineer and computer scientist with master’s degrees in both fields from Georgia Tech, Atlanta, has called Atlanta home for several decades. Originally from Chennai, he is a native Tamil speaker with a lifelong passion for the language and a keen interest in reading all genres of Tamil literature. In Atlanta, his interest in puzzles and computing led him to develop tools for creating and solving Tamil crossword puzzles and other word games. He has a proven track record of coaching others, both as a student and in the workplace. He joined Lakshmi Tamil School as a teacher in August 2023.

Hema Ramachandran, Teacher

I am Hema Ramachandran living in Denmark since 1995. I moved to Denmark after my marriage. I am originally from Manamadurai, India, and I hold an M.Sc. in Physics and a B.Ed. from India.

I worked as a teacher in schools in Madurai and Chennai before moving to Denmark, where I completed my M.C.A. I am currently working as a Web Application Developer at a private company in Denmark. In addition, I conduct free online Tamil classes and offer Indian vegetarian cooking classes for Danish people.

Interests: Writing Tamil articles and delivering speeches at various Tamil programs.

Hobby: Painting, gardening, and needlework, including knitting and sewing

Languages known: Tamizh, English and Danish

Shanti Somanathan, Teacher

Shanti Somanathan is originally from Salem, Tamil Nadu, and is a native Tamil speaker. She has been living in the Bay Area, California, since 2000. Passionate about teaching Tamil to children, she also enjoys reading Tamil books and novels. Shanti volunteered as a teacher at the California Tamil Academy for over 10 years. After taking a 3-year break to pursue her Master’s degree, she resumed teaching in 2025 at Lakshmi Learning Center. She finds great joy in working with children and feels grateful for the opportunity, believing that she learns just as much from them as they do from her.

She is deeply grateful to everyone at Lakshmi Tamil School for providing her with the opportunity and invaluable guidance to teach the Beginner class. She believes that helping children stay connected with Tamil will foster a deeper appreciation for their language, culture, and roots.

Reena Devi Sooriyamoorthy, Teacher

 

 

Reena is a former software engineer who left her job and moved to the USA to raise her family. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University and has 10 years of experience working as an IT professional at Cognizant and Oracle.
An avid reader of Tamil literature and novels, Reena believes that Tamil is a beautiful language and that it is essential for children to connect with their heritage. Passionate about sharing her love for the Tamil language and culture with the next generation, she has been volunteering as a Tamil teacher at Lakshmi Tamil School since 2017.
