About

The Lakshmi Tamil Learning Center was started in 1987 by Lakshmi Shankar in Norcross, a suburb of Atlanta, with the intention of providing free Tamil education to the children of Tamil speaking immigrants.

The aim of this school is to teach Tamil to children starting from the age of four from the perspectives of speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis is placed on speaking in order to allow the children to communicate effectively with family members and relatives who are native speakers of Tamil.

Classes were initially taught at Lakshmi’s house for several years before it was moved to the premises of Atlanta Tamil Church, Norcross in 2010 – Thanks to the generosity of the Pastor and other Elders of the church!

As more and more students got enrolled, several others who had a passion to teach and serve the community were inducted. Presently, the school has a total of 23 teachers catering to a student population of more than 300, at various levels from Beginner to 10th grade.

After the pandemic, the school has been offering more virtual classes for students from USA, Canada, India, Japan, Australia, Denmark, and UK.
